Schneider Truck Equipment & Technology

Equipment & technology

Newer trucks, next-gen technology

Schneider has a four-year trade cycle for most trucks in its fleet, meaning the average age is about two years in its truckload divisions. This speeds up the adoption of new safety and fuel-efficient technology while also improving driver comforts. Team trucks are even newer and traded out after two years. Explore Schneider’s truck specs below.

APUs and bunk heaters

Most new Schneider trucks are spec’d with an Auxillary Power Unit (APU), which gives drivers unlimited electrical power, even with the engine off. Keep the heat or AC on for a comfortable break or rest, and enjoy the warmth of a bunk heater.

Power inverters and outlets

Use the devices that improve your life on the road with our factory-installed 1,800-watt power inverters and outlets — microwaves, coffee makers, TVs, vacuums, slow cookers and more.

Memory foam mattresses

Eight-inch memory foam mattresses mean more comfortable sleep when you’re out on the road.

Built-in refrigerators

Schneider Built In Refrigerators

Most team and solo sleeper trucks feature factory-installed refrigerators. Not only do fridges give you the ability to keep food and drinks cold on the road but they help you better meal plan and ultimately save money. New trucks also come with shelving above the refrigerator which are perfect for storing additional appliances like microwaves or coffee makers.

Tablets and electronic logging

Schneider driver tablets

Schneider provides a Samsung Galaxy tablet to drivers with free data to use anywhere for work. The tablet is assigned to the driver, not the truck, so you can use it inside and outside the cab.

Additionally, Schneider’s state-of-the-art custom Compass app, found right on the Samsung tablet, puts powerful technology at your fingertips. Tap into GPS trailer tracking, rate customer locations, review work details, get pay statements, watch training videos, access Schneider news and more.

Traffic cameras and telematics

Schneider uses several tractor cameras to protect drivers against false claims. Forward-facing cameras watch the road ahead, and rear-facing cameras attached to the side mirrors watch the side of the tractor and trailer.

Adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, intelligent high beams and side guard assist are a few additional safety features Schneider trucks are spec’d with.

Mirrorless truck technology

Select Schneider drivers have been piloting trucks that utilize a camera/monitor system, called MirrorEye®, in place of exterior mirrors. This technology includes four monitors mounted on the interior of the cab and five different cameras mounted outside the truck. This new technology provides a ton of benefits to drivers, including a smaller blind spot, a greater field of vision, better visibility during bad weather and at night, improved fuel efficiency and more.

Panic switch

Schneider trucks are equipped with a panic switch to make sure drivers feel safe at all times. When set off, the switch causes the truck’s horn to blare and the lights to flash, alerting others nearby that the driver needs assistance.

Automated transmission

Even veteran drivers who were raised on manuals love the automated manual transmission trucks. Nearly 100% of our fleet is automated, and all tractors we purchase moving forward will be too. We even have driving jobs for drivers with an auto-only restriction on their CDL.

Collision mitigation system

Collision mitigation system

Plain and simple: It saves drivers’ lives — and we have the data to prove it, including a 68% reduction in crash frequency and a 95% reduction in the severity of rear-end collisions since we began implementing in 2012.

Electronic Stability Control

The Electronic Stability Control system helps prevent skid or jackknife situations by adding powerful features that detect when a truck isn’t doing what the driver wants and adjusts the brake pull to help the truck through the maneuver. Roll stability control features have been standard since 2004 and the Electronic Stability control system has been standard since 2017.

Newer trailers, containers and tracking capability

Schneider has 9,000-plus trucks, 36,900 van trailers, 20,055 intermodal containers, 20,600 Schneider-owned chassis, plus tanker trailers and a variety of specialty equipment like flatbed. Our equipment is meticulously maintained and tracked with real-time GPS sensors with a 99.5 percent accuracy. Many trailers also have automatic tire inflation, LED lights, upper brake lamps and grab handles and a step at the rear of the trailer.

High-torque 13- and 15-liter engines

Achieve the perfect balance of performance and fuel efficiency with 400 horsepower and 1,750 lb.-ft. of torque in our engines, plus a 2.28 rear axle ratio and dozens of fuel-efficiency-driven aerodynamic upgrades.

Battery electric trucks

schneider freightliner ecascadia

Schneider will soon boast one of North America’s largest electric fleets, with 92 Freightliner eCascadias set to be in use by the end of 2023. These Class 8 battery electric vehicles have the potential to offset over 81,000 pounds of CO2 emissions per day, helping Schneider get even closer to its goal of reducing per-mile emissions by 7.5% by 2025 and 60% by 2035.
